Student Life and Support

Student life at Education Development College is about much more than just exams or lessons. The College is located at the heart of the Birmingham, second city in the UK, which allows you to interact and learn about new cultures and make new friends.

At Education Development College we are committed to supporting every step of your learning journey. A warm welcome from people who are committed to help you, from the moment you step into the college right through to the end of your course.

Induction week

On your first day, you should arrive at the College by 8.45 in the morning. There will be a welcome talk and tour of the college for you and your fellow new students. You will have lots of opportunity to meet the other students who will soon be your new friends, as well as your teachers and other staff who are here to support you.

During your first few days and weeks we will help you to settle in as quickly as possible. You will be given a full induction programme so that you can meet your tutor, find out your timetable, see the facilities and find out about other important issues.

The topics that will be covered during your induction are:

  • Introduction to College facilities
  • Support with police registration
  • Medical and other support services

Updates during study period

Students must notify the College promptly of any change to their UK address and/or telephone number, and of any reason for absence, such as sickness.


Attendance & Assessment

Overseas students must follow a full-time weekday course of at least 15 hours a week and comply with all other immigration regulations and laws. A record of attendance is kept for each student, which reflects his or her participation. Students must attend their classes according to their timetable. For further information please consult College Attendance Policy. Failure to attend for 10 consecutive days will result in an automatic suspension and UKBA will be formally notified.

Students are required to attend all lectures, take all tests and submit assignments on time: failure to do so may result in re-sits, which may in turn affect the student’s duration of studies, fees, completion, etc. Students must comply with the rules and regulations of relevant external awarding bodies.
Students must abide by all College regulations as amended and updated from time to time.

Please refer to individual awards. However, the college policy for students who have either not paid full course fees and or achieved acceptable level of attendance will not be entered for assessment, e.g. examination and assignment. Examinations must be taken at scheduled times, any re-sit exams will incur additional cost.


Books and Stationery

The College provides students, where applicable, with the relevant course materials. Students must bring their textbooks and other courses materials which form an essential part of their class work to their class.The College will assist students in acquiring recommended textbooks and relevant material at discounted price.



Accommodation

The College does not have its own students’ accommodation and therefore the student must book an accommodation before his or her arrival in the UK.



Personal Conduct

The College expects its students to behave as responsible mature persons and act within the moral norms of society while attending the College or anywhere else as a "College-student". The College reserves the right to dismiss any student at any time for behaviour which is deemed to be unprofessional, inappropriate or disruptive to other students. No fees will be refundable for any student dismissed under this section. The College reserves the right to inform the appropriate authorities where a student has been dismissed from the College.

Students will be required to pay for any damage they cause to the premises and or property of the College, or any property in the care of the College, or their accommodation if arranged by the College. Students will be required to pay any charges incurred by them under College financial regulations. No refund of fees will be granted to expelled students and they will remain liable for any outstanding fees and charges. Use of drugs or tobacco is prohibited on the College premises.


VISA Extension

Once you are in Britain, we will help you to make an application to the Home Office if you need to renew your visa. The College provides the necessary documents to the UKBA for extension of student visas, upon the request of those students who have enrolled at the college and fulfilled college requirements.

The college will not issue documents, e.g. attendance certificate, progress report, registration details, visa extension related papers to students suspended from the College.


Legal Liability & Contract to third party

The College accepts no legal liability in the case of accidents, illness, loss of or damage to personal effects or mail, or for any damages or accidents caused through negligence or otherwise of a third party.

The College reserves the right to contract any third party to provide services, including enforcing any terms of this agreement, and to store and share with any parties as appropriate, students’ personal information

The College reserves the right to conduct and provide its services from premises within reasonable commuting distance of its current campus.
